Special Snow Day Edition
Good Morning to a New England winter wonderland. Whether today, the first snow day of the season (and good excuse to stay in your jammies) or during the next two weeks, our elves have been rustling up some at home ideas for you.
If you can’t think of any other holiday movies than The Grinch or Home Alone, here are some ideas.
The Man Who Invented Christmas (PG)
This movie is about Charles Dickens, struggling to come up with a story before Christmas so he can get it published. As the movie goes on, it shows how the story of A Christmas Carol comes to life.
This is a relatively new-release movie that is good for the family, especially with younger kids. The plot shows Santa Clause’s son getting ready to replace him. However, after disappearing a few days before Christmas, Santa’s daughter (Anna Kendrick) has to go into human society to look for her brother. Overall it is a cheesy and fun family Christmas movie.
Last Christmas (PG-13)
Kate has a job that is holding her back from achieving her dreams of being a singer. However, when she meets a certain someone, her life completely changes for the better. Not only is it a very cute story of love and determination, it also has that special charm of taking places around the holidays.
Holiday Rush (PG)
After a single father gets fired from his radio job just around the holidays, he is forced to take himself and his four spoiled children to go live with his aunt. Throughout the movie, the family begins to bond and learns to appreciate non-materialistic things. The movie also shows the father struggling to get back on his feet while pursuing his dream and providing for his children.
The Oath (R)
Starring Tiffany Hadish, a couple of friends get together to celebrate Thanksgiving and create havoc. Although The Oath is not a family movie, it will definitely make you laugh and enjoy yourself as if you were there with them.
The Nutcracker and the Four Realms (PG)
A classic Christmas story, the beautiful animation and scenery really make the world come alive. With the addition of real-life ballerinas and some well-known actors, the story perfectly captures every detail and can be enjoyed from the comfort of your home.
And, because no movie is complete without snacks...
Swiss Miss no more: this
chic hot chocolate machine creates hot chocolate out of real grated chocolate flakes, in just 2.5 minutes. No need for the resident hot chocolate maker to slave over a hot stove, slowly heating milk and showering cocoa powder. Plus, clean-up is a breeze.
Bring the movie theater to you by making this recipe for simple, yet divine chocolate drizzled popcorn. It's perfect for snacking without worrying about buttery fingers making a mess!
Avoid cabin fever with these activities the whole family will love.
Shrink Art Jewelry Kit
Shrink plastic is a classic that never gets old. Color in a pre-made design or draw your own, then put it in the oven and watch your art curl, shrink, and transform before your eyes.
Ultimate Arts and Crafts Kit
Make sure you will never need to make a Michaels run again! Packed with pom-poms, sequins, felt, glitter, and more, this craft kit will make anyone an artist. A kit like this is truly a COVID must-have for young ones or anyone else with a knack for crafting.
Christmas Craft Kit
Fill your tree and your heart with these delightful Christmas crafts. These would make great gifts or festive home decor once decorated!
Why not make masks festive as well? It’s simple - just purchase some protective fabric masks and then feel free to decorate anyway you would like! Perfect for the entire family, especially given the current circumstances. What a great way to stay safe while still being festive!
Volunteering is much harder today because of the barriers of being socially distant, so here are some ideas to give back to your community and help those in need celebrate the holidays as best as possible.
Donate food to a soup kitchen or homeless shelter
Connect with strangers from retirement homes.
You can either have a conversation by calling the retirement home, or even
sending a holiday card is great!
WAYS TO CONNECT (DIGITALLY)
Get in touch with your friends and family even if they are across the globe!
This extension lets you watch movies on Netflix with others, so you never have to miss out on movie night!
This app is great for playing interactive games while being on a video call; which is something you aren’t able to do on regular FaceTime.
Everyone knows about this one, but some great ideas around the holiday season to connect through zoom are to have a dinner party where everyone tries to make the same thing and then enjoy it together while talking on video! Baking together over zoom is also great!
Or, pass the time this winter looking at these beautiful properties!
